MISSION

Camp Reunite provides hope, healing and resiliency by strengthening the bond between children and their incarcerated parent.

OUR APPROACH

Utilizing trauma-informed care practices in a supportive camp setting, Camp Reunite provides children with coping skills, conflict resolution strategies and increased resiliency. Through extended and meaningful visits to correctional institutions, children have the opportunity to reconnect with their incarcerated parent. As all the children share the bond of having an incarcerated parent, Camp Reunite is a place of unparalleled acceptance and understanding.

VISION

Camp Reunite envisions a society where there is no intergenerational cycle of incarceration. One where families are strengthened and children are empowered allowing them to reach their potential.

WHAT WE DO

Camp Reunite is a week-long, trauma-informed summer camp serving youth ages 8 - 17 who have a parent currently incarcerated in the Wisconsin Correctional System. Along with traditional recreational summer camp activities, Camp Reunite offers mental health promotion activities. At camp, we work together to help each child find healthy ways to cope with separation from a parent and maintain strong relationships.

  • Conflict resolution

  • Anger management

  • Stress reduction

  • Non-violent communication skills

In partnership with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, children have the opportunity to visit with their incarcerated parent twice throughout the week, during group visits to Taycheedah Correctional Institution or Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution. Children and their parent participate in camp games and activities together, share meals, and have extensive one-on-one time to reconnect.

"I’ve seen them about five times in three years… To get more than two hours with them and two visits in a week… I’m extremely happy and out of breath because I’m so happy.”
